PA: 1960
What's the significance of 1960? Well, that's when Pa first skiied Stratton. Aka BEFORE YOU. He was the first. The real deal. True Ski pioneer. Pa hiked Stratton with a bunch of surveyors who were scouting the mountain for the future Stratton ski area. No trails were cut yet, he had to ski from the summit through the woods.
Stratton officially opened as a ski area in 1962. Yesterday Pa celebrated 50 years of skiing Stratton ski area. He and I have been going there together for over 30. We headed up in the morning. Absolutely beautiful sunny day with fresh powder on the ground. It was packed; I'd say the most skiers at the mountain I can ever remember. Pa used my new skiis and raged the slopes. He can still ski circles around most dudes half his age.
Watch for porcupines coming off the chairlift,
Spencer.
